AARP Helps Seniors with Own Online Dating Service
You found the one, gotten married, and grew old together. However, you suddenly find yourself back at square one, either because you divorced or your spouse passed away.
It is not the end of the road for you, as AARP is helping you find that special someone with its very own dating service. Powered by online dating engine How About We, AARP members age 50 and older can look for fellow seniors to date with. The website lets members ask inviting questions like “How about we go to the beach?” and those who think that is a great idea can reach out.
The organization has more than 37 million members and the dating website is a helpful tool for them to get back into the dating scene without the awkwardness. The idea sprouts from AARP members using online message boards to find each other and start romantic relationships. Sami Hassanyeh, AARP’s chief digital officer, says that the dating site actually helps seniors live longer. Hassanyeh is referring to a recent study that suggests a person’s social circle and social interactions are directly correlated to his or her level of happiness. The happier they are, the healthier they get.
“It fits with our social mission of helping end isolation and help people find companion ship,” he tells NPR.
